Our Story

ANTA is a classical architectural term. It means a pillar that doesn’t conform to the rules, much like our approach to design.

Since 1984, ANTA has been designing and manufacturing timeless homeware and accessories in Scotland. Founded by Annie and Lachie Stewart, what began as a family affair remains so today. We are a business committed to quality design, sustainable manufacturing using natural materials, and creating products that last a lifetime. Our philosophy is simple: create beautiful, lasting pieces using natural materials, crafted by skilled artisans. Rooted in tradition but created for modern living, every ANTA piece tells a story of Scotland - its landscapes, its heritage, and its dedication to quality craftsmanship. That passion continues to shape every piece we create. ANTA will always promote and support exceptional Scottish craft and design whilst staying true to the strong values of family, community and hospitality.

Our vision is to share our story and craft with the world through timeless, sustainable design. By combining traditional techniques with contemporary aesthetics, we create textiles and homeware that feels both classic and fresh - pieces that become part of everyday life, cherished for generations. We are committed to training young craftsmen and women so the tradition carries forward into the future.

One a painter, one an architect, they soon realised they shared the same design philosophy, preferring to working with natural materials wherever possible and using methods of production that involve a high level of craft.
